May 2018 in Windermere
Visiting the Lake District in Spring can be a special time of year and May 2018 in Windermere is of course no different. If you’re exploring a hiking trail across the fells, you will see fantastic colours with the new growth on the plants and trees. Flowers come into fruition throughout the gardens and flocks of birds can be seen flying above during a river cruise on Lake Windermere.
Then there’s a choice of when to visit the Lake District in May, with 2 bank holidays and plenty of things to do you’re spoilt for choice.
5th to 7th May – Cumberland Sausage Festival, Muncaster Castle
If you are staying in Windermere and wish to visit some of the most popular tourist attractions in Cumbria, then Muncaster Castle should definitely be on the list. You can reach the National Heritage Site by joining a day tour from Windermere or a scenic route via public transport.
It may get busy over the May bank holiday, but don’t let that put you off as the 4th Sausage, Food and Drink Festival celebrates all things Cumbrian. What’s more, there’s no additional cost to the festival.
18th to 19th May – The Cumbrian Challenge
Feel inspired this May with this walking with the wounded challenge. The annual fundraising event is held to raise money for wounded veterans, helping them back into a world of independence.
The walks take place across 3 different routes, from 16k walk to a 4 peak/29km hiking trail. The starting line for the event in May 2018 is at Grasmere Sports Ground, easy to reach from Lake Windermere.
You can camp for the weekend but the chances are you’ll be in need of the Spa Facilities at Aphrodite’s Lodge by the end of it!
18th, 19th and 20th May – Windermere Boat Show
If you’re staying in Windermere, then the chances are you’ll be enjoying a river cruise during your holiday. Maybe you even hired your own private yacht for that personal touch. Well now you can go all out and buy your own.

20th May – ASICS Windermere Marathon
Join 100’s of runners taking part in the ASICS Windermere Marathon. One of the most beautiful and scenic runs in the UK.
When you cross the finish line you’ll certainly deserve some pampering. Take a sports massage at a Spa Hotel or a dip in the hot tub perhaps?
26th May 2018 – Beatrix Potter Mini Musical in Bowness
Finally, relive those childhood memories. Book online to visit the World of Beatrix Potter and join Peter Rabbit and friends at “Where is Peter Rabbit?” the musical.
